abstract = {Utilitarianism is one of the most significant approaches in normative ethics. Despite internal divergences, its central claim is that the value of action lies in their utility. On the other hand, liberalism, as the dominant ideology in Western political systems, rests on certain core principles which, despite differences in scope and application, form the backbone of liberal governance. This study addresses the central question: Can political liberalism be derived from ethical utilitarianism? In other words, Is ethical utilitarianism a viable philosophical foundation for political liberalism? The findings suggest that utilitarianism is incompatible with several core liberal principles. Therefore, a liberal politician cannot ethically justify decisions based on utilitarianism while remaining committed to liberal principles. Nevertheless, despite this theoretical incompatibility, many liberal politicians pragmatically base their actions on the principle of utility—though often serving the interests of specific groups or parties rather than the public good.},

abstract_fa ={سودگرایی از مهم‌ترین دیدگاه‌ها در اخلاق هنجاری است. این دیدگاه با تمام اختلاف روایت‌هایی که دارد، معیار ارزش رفتارها را سودمندی آنها می‌داند. ازسوی‌دیگر، لیبرالیسم به‌عنوان اصلی‌ترین تفکر حاکم بر سیاست دول غربی، خود دارای اصولی است که با وجود اختلاف در کم و کیف آنها، ارکان سیاست‌ورزی لیبرال را تشکیل می‌دهند. مسئلة اصلی این پژوهش این است که آیا لیبرالیسم سیاسی از سودگرایی اخلاقی قابل استنتاج است؟ به‌عبارت‌دیگر، آیا سودگرایی اخلاقی می‌تواند مبنایی برای لیبرالیسم سیاسی باشد؟ نتایج این پژوهش نشان می‌دهد که سودگرایی با برخی اصول لیبرالیسم سازگار نیست؛ ازاین‌رو سیاستمدار لیبرال نمی‌تواند در عین پایبندی به اصول لیبرالیسم، تصمیم‌گیری‌های خود را بر اساس نظریة سودگرایی توجیه اخلاقی کند؛ اما با وجود این ناسازگاری نظری، در عرصة عمل، بسیاری از سیاستمداران لیبرال کنش‌های سیاسی خود را بر اساس اصل سودمندی جهت می‌دهند؛ هرچند در بسیاری از موارد، نه سود عمومی، که سود گروه یا حزب خاصی را هدف قرار می‌دهند.},
